1. Who is eligible to apply?
For-profit businesses located in Los Angeles County with annual revenues up to $250,000. Applicants must be 18+, have a business checking account, and complete all required challenge steps. Priority is given to businesses in venue cities; Los Angeles, Inglewood, Long Beach, Santa Monica/ Venice Beach, Pasadena, Pomona, El Monte, Arcadia and Carson.
2. What can the grant funds be used for?
Grants are flexible-use and can be applied toward business growth, operations, marketing, supplies, technology upgrades, or other expenses that help move your business forward.
A $5,000 grant could meaningfully support:
Equipment upgrades
Website or digital marketing buildout
Inventory purchases
Legal or accounting services
Certification fees (MBE/WBE/SBE)
Contracting readiness (e.g., bonding, insurance, bid prep) etc...
3. Is there a cost to apply?
No. The application and participation in the program are completely free.
4. What are the Challenge Steps?
The Challenge Steps are nine guided activities that help assess your business’s media presence, financial practices, legal readiness, tech tools, and operational strategy. Completing all steps—including a short pitch video—is required to be considered for a grant.
5. Do I need to submit a business plan?
No formal business plan is required. However, your responses during the challenge and your pitch should clearly explain your business model, goals, and how the grant would make an impact. There is an option for you to submit your business plan at the end of the application.
6. What is the Fud app and how is it used in this program?
The Fud app is one platform applicants can use to build a business profile and upload their pitch video. While it is not required, using Fud can help increase visibility and engagement with your business. Applicants may also use other social platforms to share their pitch and story.
7. How are grant recipients selected?
Applications are evaluated based on pitch quality, completion of challenge steps, digital engagement, business potential, and community impact. A review panel including representatives from LISC LA and TBA community partners will make final selections.
8. When will I know if I’ve been selected?
Finalists will be notified in August-Sepember 2025. Grant disbursements are expected to begin in September 2025.
9. Can I apply if I’ve received previous grant funding from another program?
Yes, as long as your business meets the eligibility criteria for this program.
